Most archives begin after someone realizes something worth keeping has already disappeared.
Crownrot was founded in the hope of arriving slightly earlier.
Its interests are narrow by design: funeral custom, cemetery history, vernacular belief, memorial art, and the countless traditions that exist somewhere between documented history and local memory. Some deserve correction. Others deserve skepticism. Nearly all deserve to be recorded before they are forgotten entirely.
The archive grows slowly. Material is included because it contributes something worth preserving, not because another issue is due.
If these pages encourage closer observation, they have served their purpose.
